Dr John Calder BVSc

Dr John Calder BVSc

I joined Gerry Deen at BVH in 1981 being an Adelaide boy who returned to my home town suburb. In this time I have observed great changed within the industry and at Brighton Veterinary Hospital.

I still enjoy all facets of modern Veterinary medicine and surgery, with particular interest in feline medical and behavioural complaints, and the business management of the Hospital.

Australian Chelonians (tortoises) have been an interest of mine since childhood which continues today.

I currently have four cats (all rehomed from the hospital), numerous hand reared magpies that we still feed, a tortoise, three children and my wife Brenda who tolerates all of my excesses. Love of family, animals, wines, skiing and travel.

Brian is proudly local, having been born and raised in nearby Seacliff. Brian attended schools locally, graduating from Sacred Heart College in 1995.

For as long as any of Brian's family care to remember his passion has been caring for sick and injured animals.

After graduation from SHC, Brian's passion took him to Melbourne, where he completed his Bachelor of Veterinary Science at Melbourne University in 1999. Since this time Brian has worked in a range of vet practices both in Australia and the United Kingdom, treating animals as diverse as gerbils and rats right through to sheep and cattle.

Brian continues to live in the area with his wife Kelly, son Patrick, Finn a German Short Haired Pointer and 2 “white fluffies”, Boston and Baci.
