Dr Alex Harrison graduated with honours from Murdoch University in 2000 and has enjoyed a varied career spanning university teaching, clinical practice, practice ownership and advanced small-animal medicine and surgery.

After an early role at the University of Melbourne Veterinary School, Alex spent 13 years in a busy group of hospitals in Adelaide’s south, including 10 years as a practice partner. He holds Memberships of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists in both Small Animal Medicine and Small Animal Surgery.

Alex has a particular love of oncology and supporting pets and their families through the cancer journey. He enjoys the combination of medicine, problem-solving and long-term relationships that cancer care brings, and values helping families navigate difficult decisions with clarity and compassion. His other clinical interests include diagnostic imaging and surgery, and he particularly enjoys the challenge of complex medical and surgical cases.

One of the things Alex loves most about veterinary medicine is where it can take you. His career has included working from a caravan in remote northern Western Australia, trapping and releasing endangered wildlife, working with a silverback gorilla at an Australian zoo, teaching veterinary students, running a veterinary business, and managing the wonderfully unpredictable variety of cases that walk through the consulting-room door.

Outside work, Alex enjoys travel, photography, wildlife and spending time with his family. He is also very happily owned by two Australian Shepherds.
