Dr John CalderVeterinary Surgeon

John has been practising as a vet for over 39 years (38 at Brighton Veterinary Hospital!) and has a wealth of experience in small animal veterinary care.  John attended Westminster School at Marion.  After he completed Year 12 he undertook a gap year in South Africa, hence his love of animals, big cats and Africa.  John completed his Bachelor of Veterinary Science at the University of Sydney in 1980. John was one of the original veterinarians along with founding vet Dr Gerry Deen.

John was raised in Somerton Park and currently lives at Hallett Cove with his wife, three cats, an infinite number of magpies, numerous finches, a lap pool for ‘swimmy’ the long neck tortoise and accompanying fish!

John holds a particular affection for cats and is frequently known for hand rearing baby magpies in his back garden.  He has special interests in turtles and experienced in an extensive range of surgical procedures.

In his spare time, John enjoys wine, tennis, skiing and the odd day at ‘The Bend’. He has a love for Africa and all the animals within. A Favourite? The leopard.

John currently works one day per week consulting as he starts to transition to a much deserved retirement.
